Ernest Cook is the Austin Blackhawks all time leader in putouts with over 500. Ernest came to the Blackhawks in 1989 and quickly improved a team in need of defensive help. Ernest led the Blackhawks to thier first World Series Championship and collected the Devensive MVP award in 1992. Ernest can be a streaky hitter at the plate as well, adding an Offensive MVP award to his list of accomplishments in 1995. Ernest is one of just a few players to earn both an offensive and defensive World Series MVP trophy. As you will see below in the tournament highlights, Ernest is consitently hititng and fielding with the best year after year.

Tournament Highlights: Ernest hit 11 for 16 (.688) in the 1989 South Texas Shootout on a slow field to earn offensive all tournament honors. Ernest went 11 for 13 (.846) in the 1992 Oklahoma City Regional tournament which was good enough to make the offensive all tournament team. Made the defensive all tournament team in the South Texas Shootout in Houston in 1993 with 11 putouts. Made the defensive all tournament team in the Oklahoma City Regional Tournament in 1993 with 13 putouts. Was 7 for 7 with 8 putouts in limited action at the 1994 Ft. Worth Invitational Tournament. Recorded 18 putoouts in 5 games in the 1994 Oklahoma City Regional. Hit 9 for 11 (.818) with 4 putouts in 3 games in the 1996 Ft. Worth Invitational Tournament.

World Series: 1991 Defensive All Tournament Team, 1992 Defensive MVP, 1995 Offensive All Tournament Team, 1997 Defensive All Tournament Team. Went 28 for 42 (.667) in the 1989 World Series. Recorded 26 putouts in the 1991 World Series. Hit .650 and recorded 39 putout (a Blackhawk tournament record) including a 10 put out performance vs. Chicago Insight in the 1992 World series leading Austin to their first of seven straight championships.. Hit .614 and recorded 21 putouts in the 1993 World Series. Hit .655 and recorded 21 putouts in the 1994 World Series. Hit .683 and recorded 30 putouts in the 1995 World Series. Hit .676 and recorded 15 putouts in the 1996 World Series. Ernest recorded a team high 21 putouts in the 1997 World Series. Recorded 33 putouts in the 2000 World Series.
